MVA Single Car Rollover

On 7 May 2008, Rescue 50 & QRV 50 were dispatched to a MVA with rollover at Union New Hope Road / Rufus Ratchford Road @ J&J Lane. Due to Gaston County protocol pertaining to the type of vehicle accident and mechanism of injury, the auto launch of the helicopter was initiated. While in route, Rescue 50 up channeled the request for Union Road Station 51 to assist with the landing zone at Carolina Motor Speedway.

Upon arrival, Rescue 50 found a white Volkswagen Jetta on its roof. The patient was a twenty year old unrestrained female complaining of head/neck/back pain with multiple lacerations. The patient had already been removed from the vehicle by a passerby.

Personnel from Rescue 50 and QRV50 rendered the scene and vehicle safe, initiated patient care and packaged the patient for transport. GEMS personnel canceled the helicopter and the patient was transported by GEMS to Carolinas Medical Center Charlotte for treatment.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation by the NC Highway Patrol.
